Creating Rainbow Cake pops

By now you're all aware that i'm ADDICTED to everything cake pops! I'm always experimenting to find new methods of creating unique pop creations. I haven't invented any new concepts, but I've learned some tricks & have a few tips to share from my experiences.

This is a fun way to use the babycakes machine to create rainbow cake pops. My 1st attempt failed because as I've mentioned in earlier posts, some box cake mixes don't yield a perfectly round shaped cake pop in this machine. It's a matter of trial & error and I'm always learning.

What you do is start with your cake mix of choice once you find one that actually works in your machine. (I suggest Duncan Heins butter recipe) it has to be a light colored batter or you won't see the colors when you tear open the baked pop.

Start by mixing your cake batter either from scratch or box and separate into smaller bowls to which you'll be adding food safe food coloring. You can also use gel coloring from Wilton's or Americolor. The results may be brighter and bolder, it's a matter of preference so do what works for you.

Add a few drops at a time if using the liquid dyes, or using a toothpick, smear & mix into the batter until you get to the desired color. It may take some trial and error to get the desired result so you may want to set aside an even smaller amount just to experiment and bake as a trial run before baking the entire batch of batter. My two cents worth here is that vibrant colors like red, purple and blue require a little bit more of the food coloring dye. Repeat this with all of your colors you want to add.  Once you've thouroughly mixed your coloring you're ready to start baking in the babycakes machine.

Spray your round shaped wells with baking nonstick baking spray. Add a very small amount of colored cake batter and let it spread out for a minute or two. Add the next color on top of that layer and repeat until you've added a small amount from all the colored batters you've prepared.

Plug your machine in & bake as you would normally prepare cake balls. Approx 4 or 5 minutes.

When the green light comes on indicating the cake pop has finished baking carefully open the machine as it's very hot. I unplug it at this point so the cake balls stop baking. Remove them from the wells and set aside to cool. Finish decorating process dipping into melted chocolate etc. When you're done you'll have a colorful surprise hiding inside your cake pops!
